Frequently Asked Questions

As licenced asbestos removal experts, we´re continually asked various questions about our services and the dangers posed by asbestos. Here are some of the most frequently asked questions and their answers:

How do I know if there´s asbestos on my property?

The likelihood of your property containing asbestos depends on when it was built or renovated. If before 1990, the presence of asbestos is highly likely, so you should book an inspection. The Australian government estimates that one-third of the country´s homes contain asbestos products.

Typically places in the home where asbestos can be found are roofing and gutters, walls, fencing, sheds and splashbacks in wet areas. The only way to determine whether a material contains asbestos is to have it tested in a laboratory. We can organise that for you.

What is asbestos testing?

Asbestos testing is the procedure of analysing certain materials to see whether or not they contain asbestos. This is done by taking a sample of the material in question and sending it to an independent laboratory.

Can I remove the asbestos?

Asbestos is a potentially hazardous material that can cause lung cancer and other serious illnesses. Therefore, removal is best left to professionals with experience, knowledge and equipment. However, if the asbestos-containing material doesn´t exceed 10 square metres, you can remove it at your own risk.

How long will it take to remove asbestos from my property?

The time required to remove asbestos safely depends on access to the area, the amount of material and the resources necessary. If there is a small amount of asbestos, it can be cleared in one day. However, if there are substantial asbestos-containing materials, it may take up to a week or more.

What happens if we leave the asbestos where it is?

Not all asbestos has to be removed. Materials that aren’t disturbed or damaged do not pose a significant health risk. However, broken, damaged or weathered asbestos-containing materials should be removed. That´s because of the risk of releasing asbestos fibres into the air.

Is your company qualified to remove asbestos?

  • The type of asbestos that needs moving
  • The size of the area
  • The quantity of asbestos
  • Whether the asbestos is in loose particles or solid sheeting
